-le Word Building Cards

Print each set of cards on different coloured card.

-ble cards,  -dle cards,   -gle cards,   -kle and -zle cards,   -ple cards,   -tle cards

Use one set of cards at a time. Check that your child can read the final syllable, e.g. -tle. Place all the “-tle” cards down in a column. Pick up the other cards one at a time, e.g. cat-. Your child reads it, then places it in front of a “-tle” card. What word does it make now?

Later use cards from different sets. Put any first syllable with any second syllable. Is each word that you make a real word or not?

If the first syllable ends with a single vowel, it usually says its name, e.g. ta-ble, bu-gle. If there is one vowel and the syllable ends with a consonant, the vowel usually says its short sound, e.g. rat-tle, jug-gle,
tum-ble.
