ESL Teacher-Librarian

As the English as a Second Language (ESL) librarian for the Education Department I am always on the lookout for new resources suitable for ESL students. ESL students in Tasmania do not attend special language schools but are integrated into their local school and supported by ESL teachers within the school. Students need resources that help them to learn in this environment and the suite of resources created by Gilead Enterprises are very useful for this purpose. Students can have alphabet, reading and spelling programs on their computer which they work through at their own pace.

Jeanne (the creator of the programs and games) has had many years experience teaching ESL, so the resources are very appropriate for ESL learners at all levels.

To mention just two of the many programs:

  • Students like the little video clips on the Alphabet Album (which also shows you how to say and write the letter, and has a little poem about each letter too).
  • Kinaesthetic letters presents letters and blends through action – an alternative approach for teachers to use if students have had trouble learning their letters and sounds.

Gilead Enterprises has a wealth of resources to plunder – at a very reasonable price too!

Recommended.
