Which program should I buy?
The Gilead Success with Reading Program, Part 1 is a suite of programs for beginners to about grade 2 students. Out of print.
The Gilead Success with Reading Program, Part 2 contains two suites of computer programs for older students (high school to adults) to be able to improve their skills independently. It also contains some books and games to print.
Gilead Success with Phonics largely supersedes Part 1. The material from Part 1 has been reworked to be sequential. The original programs are also included as alternatives. Some of the books and games to print from Part 2 have also been included – the ones that are suitable for younger students. Common words to practise have been added at the end of each level (Levels 1 to 9). Level 9 extends the material taught in Part 1 so that Gilead Success with Phonics includes hopping/hoping, syllables, apostrophes, a few sight words (e.g. laugh, eyes), tion, ous …
Printed books and games form an integral part of Gilead Success with Phonics, so an adult is needed to print these and then play them with the child as they occur in the sequence.
So which one should you choose? I would suggest
- Gilead Success with Phonics if your child has missed some of the basics and you are able to work through the program with them.
- Gilead Success with Phonics for use in a school or home as a framework for reading instruction.
- If children are largely working on their own, they can use the original programs in “Review 1 to 4” and “Review 5 to 9” in Gilead Success with Phonics.
- Part 2 for older students (approximately 12-year-olds to adults).
