We all know English is tricky, but what can we do?
A friend just sent me this video. It’s no wonder that many kids find it so hard. My take on it – start with the easy and work to the more complex. First “a” in cat, bat, ran … Then teach a_e, ai, ay; later ei, eigh … air, are, ear … as combinations/groups/digraphs, but without the technical jargon. Lots of practice, memory aids, graded/decodable books, fun and encouragement … leads to success. Definitely keep “sight words” to an absolute minimum.
