Alphabet Album

Alphabet Album seahorses

In the program, click on the picture of the seahorses to hear /s/ … “seahorses” and see a video clip of some seahorses.

Alphabet Album has been incorporated into the logical, sequential presentation of Gilead Success with Phonics. (It can also still be accessed separately within it.)

Alphabet Album is an interactive computer program that helps children identify the first sound in a word and learn the most common sound of each letter of the alphabet.

Children love it.  And they learn the sounds of letters and some early *phonemic awareness skills.

*Phonemic awareness is the ability to hear, identify and manipulate the individual sounds within words. It is a key skill in learning to read and it gives an indication of how easily children will learn to read. Some children need a lot of this sort of activity to develop phonemic awareness.

In the program, a child would click on

    • “s” to see the letter turn red and hear /ssss…/, the sound of the letter, not its name.
    • the blue ear to hear a rhyme to help remember the sound of “s”.
    • the pencil to see and hear how to write the letter.
    • a picture to see photos or a video clip of something starting with “s” making a /s/ sound. E.g. slide, skiing, snake … not ship, shell …
…  Pip and Grandpa enjoy Alphabet Album. You don’t have to be an expert to help a child learn to read, just enjoy it with them.
