Bothersome Blends
Bothersome Blends is now part of Gilead Success with Phonics.
Occasionally children may have difficulty with some consonant blends, e.g. ft or tr. They find it very difficult to hear the individual sounds within the blend.
In the program, click on the blue ear to hear the blend split up, then pronounced together slowly – /s/, /l/, /sl/
Children must focus on critical differences in the words to make their choice.
Then they click on the loud speaker symbol next to any of the words. The groups of letters will be pronounced and shown in red (or blue…) in turn, then the word pronounced.
The most common sound of a letter or group of letters is shown in red, the second in blue, the third in purple, the fourth in green. This is consistent through the whole of Gilead Success with Phonics and The Gilead Success with Reading Program, Part 2.
If the answer is correct a video clip, a photo or series of photos will be displayed.
If the answer is wrong, you will just see and hear, for example, /sl/ /oo/ /p/ in turn, then “sloop”
