Part 2
Gilead® Games |
The Gilead® Success with Reading Program, Part 2 is for older students. It is often difficult to find material for older students that addresses key areas of difficulty and is engaging.
Five main areas that often cause difficulty for older students are:
- Sounds of groups of letters, particularly vowel sounds, e.g. ai, ou, ow … silent “e” … also consonant sounds ch, sh, th … Practise these with computer games and other games.
- Splitting long words into syllables, keeping syllables and the sounds within syllables in order – Practise this on the computer. A quiz at the end of each section.
- Spelling common words – Practise these on the computer.
- A few useful spelling rules – Spelling rules for students and/or teachers.
- Getting students to practise – Good readers keep improving, poor readers fall further behind. Computer games, interactive books and printed games and books encourage reluctant readers.
